NexVerb: Elon Musk

It is no longer news that on Friday, Tesla boss Elon Musk announced on his Twitter handle that his satellite internet service firm Starlink, launched by SpaceX, his space exploration company, has gained an approval by Nigerian government and by extension Mozambique.

Starlink presence in Nigeria shows the ever increasing internet market size and prospect for rural internet connectivity, but with ever rising inequality, high cost of business operations, and the Nigerian rural economy situation, Starlink may find it difficult in achieving rural connectivity, and small business growth in Akwa Ibom.

According to Nairametrics reports, The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) officially confirmed this announcement. This licensing follows an official visit to Nigeria by the company’s team in May 2021 to discuss the possibility of obtaining a licence.

Starlink now currently operates in 36 countries has over 400k subscribers, yep 400k around the world.

Just like millions of Nigerians and small business in Akwa Ibom are with a high hope, I think the law of"one man food is another man poison", works here. The MTN, AIRTEL, 9MOBILE, GLO, spatranet would be definitely finding it hard how to strategies for a new deep pocket service firm.

Starlink is a multiple billion startups backed Tesla led by the richest man and genius business strategist Elon. Our current Nigerian telecom this may a

Why STARLINK is not for Small Business in Akwa Ibom

Super Fast, Super Expensive

150Mbps internet speeds to any place on the planet. All the customer needs is a clear view of the sky. That is that about the technical aspects of starlink.

Elon's starlink is super expensive for Nigerians who seek to start a venture firm with as little as N500,000 as startup capital.

Starlink Data Plans

In comparison to other existing similar internet plans in Nigeria which cost an average of 'chikini' $50, Starlink is a way higher expensive go to option costing.

$599 (~₦330,000) for a full kit, including a terminal, mounting tripod, and Wi-Fi router, then a $110 (~₦60,500) for preorder and monthly subscription. Its premium service costs about $2,500 (~₦1.375 million) for the full kit and $500 (~₦275,000) monthly.

With the above price structure, would you want a super fast internet connectivity with big $$$ or take little and pay for the traditional Data Plans on other telsco.

But I strongly believe Musk and Starlink has plans for that.
